Jordan Stephens has admitted he got sober after ‘destroying’ relationships in his life before anyone ‘held a boundary’.

The Rizzle Kicks star, 32, discussed his experiences with drugs and alcohol during a candid interview On the mend with Matt Willis.

Jordan started dating Jade Thirlwall in 2020 during the first coronavirus lockdown after she slipped into his direct messages on Instagram.

When discussing how substances affected his relationships, he said: ‘Every time I go out and destroy myself with drugs, I destroy the relationships I’m in and that doesn’t really work for me, so I’m going to have to get sober and I have.

‘This was the last point. I have experienced this heartbreak where someone rightly held a boundary and forced me to reconsider my b******t.

“One of the things I did, which I talk about at the end of this book, is I literally took a relationship course to teach myself how to be a good partner. Wow. Because I thought, ‘I’m clearly screwing this up.’

Jordan also shared how he overdosed on the drug Modafinil he was taking for his ADHD.

The artist posted it on the Internet and only after going to a psychiatrist did he realize that his dose was far too high.

Jordan said: “He said, OK, how strong are the pills? And I went 200 mg each. And I remember he just went quiet. And he was taking 400 mg a day? And I went sometimes.

“And he said, OK, we’re going to get you with this. And then he writes out the prescription. And I remember so vividly he gave me the prescription and I looked at it and it said 16 mg, and I thought it was 16 mg?

“And then I remembered reading the pamphlet and it said, this is how you know you’ve had an overdose. And it was like a dry tongue, profuse sweating.

“And it was like all the things I thought modafinil mode was kicking in worked. So according to those statistics, I had actually been overdosing every day for eighteen months.

Jordan added that he also took Modafinil, which is used to treat conditions that cause excessive daytime sleepiness, to help him stop using cocaine.

Jordan said: 'Every time I go out and destroy myself with drugs, I destroy the relationships I'm in and that doesn't really work for me so I'm going to have to get sober and I have done that'

He said: ‘Modafinil was supposed to take me off coke because my cocaine use became a problem when I started doing it at home.

“You know, initially it was a coping mechanism to deal with how intense the places I had to go were. Again, as you know, it was surreal.”

It comes after Jordan gave rare insight into his relationship with Jade during a performance at the Kite Festival.

He said: ‘I have to give a shout out to my current girlfriend. In the relationship I am in now, I feel safe and secure. I feel love and I feel connected to a person.

“I didn’t know I could feel love like that.”

Before Jade, Jordan was in a relationship with actress Amber Anderson. They broke up in 2019.

Jordan added that he has become more open about his feelings as he has gotten older.

He said: ‘I would never recommend that anyone keep their heart closed for a long period of time because it is isolating and I think that’s where the more damaging behavior comes from.

‘People who have been so traumatized at such a young age or have experienced such great heartbreak that their hearts are closed – you can’t connect with people like that, so you can act in an unempathetic way.

‘The downside is that there are people who keep their hearts too open, I really believe that, that they let everything in and cannot deal with it, because it is our responsibility to set boundaries.

‘I know the feeling when my heart is with certain people and when it isn’t. Setting boundaries has been a big lesson for me. Knowing when to close the door just a little.
