Plymouth Argyle manager Wayne Rooney was shown a red card during his team’s 2-1 home win over Blackburn on Saturday.

Rooney was dismissed after he reacted angrily to Blackburn’s equalizer being allowed to stand in the 86th minute.

Plymouth were adamant that a foul had been committed in the build-up to the match and Rooney apparently said something which upset fourth official Jacob Miles, who informed referee James Linington.

However, Plymouth’s players responded well to the goal and Rooney being sent to the stands.

Argyle then scored the winning goal in the seventh minute of extra time.

Former Southampton striker Michael Obafemi opened the scoring for Plymouth on Saturday by scoring his first goal for the club since joining on loan from Burnley.

Joe Rankin-Costello’s looping header brought Blackburn level, despite complaints from the home side.

It was then Morgan Whittaker, who signed £1 million from Lincoln last summer, who scored the winning goal in extra time.

Saturday’s win over Blackburn saw Plymouth extend their home winning run to three games after beating Sunderland Burnley in Devon last month.
