James Blunt has made a bold promise to legally change his name based on public suggestions—but there’s a condition. The 50-year-old singer stated that if the re-release of his debut album “Back to Bedlam” climbs to number one in the charts, he will change his name by deed poll.

In a video shared on X, Blunt announced the album’s re-release on 11 October to celebrate its 20th anniversary. The album includes hits such as “You’re Beautiful,” “Goodbye My Lover,” and “High.” Blunt said, “I’ll let the people decide,” but added, “If it doesn’t go to number one, I’m not changing my name.”

In the post, he used the hashtag #jameswho and urged fans to suggest new names, with the most-liked suggestion winning. Within hours of its Wednesday posting, the video garnered over 800,000 views and more than 2,000 comments.

The leading suggestion at the time was “Blunty McBluntface,” a name Blunt specifically said he did not want during an interview on The Chris Moyles Show on 30 September. Other popular names included “Blames Junt,” “James Corden,” and “Nick Pope.”

“Back to Bedlam” was among the best-selling albums of the 2000s in the UK and ranks 17th in UK chart history, according to the Official Charts website. His single “You’re Beautiful” topped charts in both the UK and US.

Blunt has released seven more albums, with the latest being “Who We Used To Be” in 2023. In conjunction with the album’s anniversary, he is set to tour the UK and Europe, with a performance at London’s The O2 Arena on 16 February next year, and additional dates in Belfast, Dublin, Leeds, Glasgow, and Manchester.
