Prominent Sydney businessman John Ibrahim has been exposed as the intended target of an assassination attempt near his eastern suburbs mansion.
Ibrahim, who made his fortune running nightclubs, can be identified as the target of the July 25 attempted attack near his Dover Heights mansion after a court lifting a secrecy order on Thursday.
Two men, aged 20 and 24, were arrested the same day near the crime scene after a scuffle with police.
They allegedly pointed a loaded gun at a neighbor they mistook for Ibrahim as he drove off the exclusive waterfront street in a car similar to one owned by Ibrahim.
The two men, Yousif Zrayka and Siaosi Maeakafa Tupoulahi, have been charged with complicity in murder and possession of a weapon.
Ibrahim had asked the court in July to withhold his identity, but prosecutors did not seek an extension of the secrecy order after he reportedly refused to give a statement to police about the incident.
The drama unfolded in the upscale neighborhood around 8:30 a.m. on July 25, when a man wearing a balaclava and carrying a gun was seen on the street.
Police allege that 24-year-old Tupoulahi then walked up to a car and pointed a gun at the driver.
A tense standoff ensued for 10 seconds after the driver put his hands up, after which Tupoulahi reportedly fled.
