Scott McTominay is ‘at risk and under observation for his diet’ at Napoli after leaving Man United this summer – with star warned about the ‘temptations of Neapolitan cuisine’

Scott McTominay reportedly being monitored over his 'risk diet' at Antonio Conte's Napoli

Scott McTominay is being closely monitored over his ‘risk diet’ at Antonio Conte’s Napoli, according to reports.

The midfielder takes a note home from training every day, stating what he can and cannot eat.

McTominay, 27, joined Napoli this summer for £25.7million, ending his 22-year contract with Manchester United.

In south-west Italy, he is led by Antonio Conte and things have been going well so far, with Napoli sitting second in Serie A.

However, his culinary adventures are strictly guided by the “many temptations of Neapolitan cuisine,” according to the local newspaper The Mattino via calcionapoli24.

That palette consists, as gourmets can attest, of ice cream, pizza, pasta and cheese.

It is common for foreign players to monitor their diet and Conte wants ‘everyone in top shape’ to achieve his goals.

McTominay in particular is said to have been warned about the appeal of dairy products.

It is of course no surprise that a top European club is taking a stricter approach to eating by its stars.

Conte is known for his high standards. When he signed Romelu Lukaku to Internazionale, where they won the Scudetto in 2020-21, he made the striker lose a kilo within a few weeks of his arrival.

Lukaku was accused of being overweight towards the end of his time at Manchester United, reportedly weighing 104kg when he joined Inter.

Conte had the Belgian follow his ‘Bresaola diet’, which meant that fried food, mozzarella and alcohol were definitely off the menu. Instead, there was a Mediterranean menu on the table with vegetables and protein-rich white meats such as turkey and chicken.

Thanks to that menu, Lukaku became hugely successful at Inter, where he scored 78 goals in 132 games, won the Serie, the Coppa Italia and the Supercoppa Italia and reached the Champions League final.

At Napoli, Conte has Tiberio Ancora and a team of personal staff who keep an eye on the nutrition of his players.

McTominay is reportedly getting bonuses if he helps them win the league title, so he’ll be hoping his new diet pays off.
