Man arrested after elderly abducted, assaulted in West Yorkshire

Police have arrested a man after an 87-year-old was abducted, assaulted, and abandoned far from his residence. The elderly man was reportedly forced into a black car and attacked while being driven around West Yorkshire, resulting in severe injuries.

The victim was later discarded “miles from his home.” He managed to get help by knocking on a door around 10.40pm, according to Greater Manchester Police (GMP). The assault occurred between 9pm and 9.30pm on Sunday in the Lee Street area of Oldham.

On Thursday, authorities detained a 39-year-old man on suspicion of kidnapping. He remains in custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Emma Hulston from GMP’s major incident team stated, “We are still piecing together the full circumstances of this horrendous incident, including constructing an exact timeline that led to the man being attacked and thrown from the car miles from his home.” She added that while the incident is alarming for the local community, it is currently believed to be isolated with no broader threat to the public.

Officers are seeking any information that could aid their investigation.
