Russell Crowe has revealed he still ‘has to work for a living’ after comparing his career to that of Hollywood star Daniel Day-Lewis.
The 60-year-old Australian actor, who has starred in major blockbusters including Gladiator, made a lighthearted comment on the realities of life as a movie star in a new interview.
Talking about The Joe Rogan ExperienceRussell told what it was really like to meet the world-famous Daniel, 67, before commenting on his wealth.
Host Joe Rogan, 57, initially described the Gangs of New York star as a “weird guy” because he “disappears” [from the spotlight] a few years and makes shoes’.
Russell then noted that Daniel always manages to “come back with a vengeance and a fury,” while talking about his hugely successful career.
The Cinderella Man actor jokingly compared their levels of fame, then said, “Some of us have to work for a living, mate, you know?”
Russell suggested that Daniel would have to be very independent and wealthy to sustain such a lifestyle.
Elsewhere in the chat, Russell also gave an insight into what it was like to meet Daniel in real life, stressing that he is still a huge fan, despite being famous himself.

In an interview with The Joe Rogan Experience, Russell revealed what it was really like to meet the world-famous Daniel (pictured in 2013), 67, before making a comment about his wealth
“You know, I have that thing myself, you know, when I meet someone who, like, I love their work or whatever. I’m still the same fan I was before I even got into the business,” he explained.
‘I met Daniel Day-Lewis at a Motel 8 in Conestoga, New York State […] It was just unexpected and you know, it was cool. Such a nice guy too.’
Russell has been nominated for an Academy Award three times, while Daniel has won the Oscar for Best Actor three times.
Russell is currently on tour in the United States with his band Indoor Garden Party promoting their new album Prose and Cons.
They recently visited Rome and Russell sparked rumors that he would marry his girlfriend Britney Theriot during the trip.
Russell first sparked speculation about his engagement to Britney, 31, earlier this year when she was spotted wearing a huge diamond ring.
Last month, rumors began circulating that they were eyeing an Italian wedding after they visited a church in Rome.
“Italy was always going to be their wedding destination. Every time they go there, they come back more in love,” an insider said Women’s Day at that time.

Russell often holidays in Italy with Britney and his sons Charles, 20, and Tennyson, 18 – who he shares with ex-wife Danielle Spencer.
Gladiator star Russell has long spoken of his love for Italy, and Rome in particular, previously describing the city as “the city that makes my heart beat faster.”
In February, Britney was spotted wearing a stunning diamond ring on her ring finger while visiting the Ariston Theatre in Sanremo.
It is believed that Russell first met former actress Britney on the set of his 2013 film Broken City, but they didn’t start dating until many years later.
The couple confirmed their long-awaited romance with a kiss on a tennis court in November 2020.
Russell was previously married to 55-year-old Australian actress Danielle. They married in April 2003 in a ceremony at his farm in Nana Glen.
The couple had two sons together, but went their separate ways in 2012. Six years later, the divorce was finalized.
Despite their high-profile split, Danielle previously told Stellar magazine that the couple are still friends and consider each other “family.”
