Jets’ Aaron Rodgers speaks out on being forced to address sexuality in 2013: ‘I really, really like women’

Rodgers reveals why he addressed rumors about his sexuality in upcoming biography

Over a decade ago, Aaron Rodgers was forced to come out and declare that he was not gay during a live radio interview.

Nowadays, Rodgers has spoken out about the rumors, but in the past 11 years he has barely spoken about it.

He makes these revelations in his forthcoming biography, ‘Out of the Darkness: The Mystery of Aaron Rodgers.’

Rodgers said in the interview 11 years ago that “from time to time there are crazy rumors that go around that are just plain ridiculous.”

“I think I was angry about the way the rumor was spread because it was meant to shame the idea of homosexuality. And I have so many friends in the community who are gay,” Rodgers said in the book.

“And right before that, (radio host Jason Wilde) and I had talked about this multiple times, and I said, ‘I want to go after them, the people who are saying this,’” Rodgers continued. “Not in relation to me, because I can’t imagine what they were thinking of me, but that they’re using this as a means of shaming, as if being gay is a bad thing. As if it’s a negative thing.”

“That’s what I wanted to achieve. And (Wilde) said, ‘You just have to let it go and just say no.’ I wish I had done the former, because that’s how I really felt,” Rodgers added. “I’m like, ‘Say whatever you want about me, but do you understand that these people are using this to shame the idea of homosexuality?’”

“That’s just disrespectful to all my friends in the community who don’t believe it’s a choice,” Rodgers said. “They made it seem like you’re shaming people for being gay, when a lot of them, if you ask them, they didn’t ask for this life. ‘This is who I am.’ So I wish I had handled it that way, and I don’t blame Jason. We talked it out.”

As a member of the Packers, Rodgers used to have a weekly segment on Wilde’s radio show on Tuesdays, where Rodgers himself addressed the rumors.

Despite the rumors, Rodgers has had high-profile relationships with Danica Patrick, Olivia Munn and Shailene Woodley in public.
