Gary Neville says injuries ‘can’t be an excuse’ for Man United as club legend claims he’s ‘more optimistic’ about this season ahead of Fulham opener

Gary Neville says injuries cant be an excuse for Man

Gary Neville is more optimistic about Man United this season, but insists injuries cannot be an excuse if it is another disappointing season.

United host Fulham on Friday night in the opening game of the Premier League season and their fans will be hoping it marks the start of a much more positive campaign than last time out.

The Red Devils have endured a season marked by injuries and off-field problems, resulting in their worst ever Premier League finish (eighth).

Neville said in an interview with Sky Sports ahead of the match against Fulham: ‘Injuries can’t be an excuse for United this season.

‘Either you sign the wrong players or you give the wrong training. That has to be taken away as an excuse.

He continued: ‘I have become more optimistic because of the changes at the top and the end of the negligence.

“They have spent a lot of time on the training pitch but have brought in some good footballers who will not make the same basic mistakes. The profile of the players that have been brought in is very different.”

Club legend Roy Keane also spoke out about his former club.

“They can’t perform like last year, they can’t finish eighth. It’s up to the players to show personality and skills.”
