An eyewitness described the terrifying scene to the Global Times, noting the ride stopped suddenly and slid back. This caused people to collide due to inertia, breaking safety panels. Another witness reported hearing many screams during the incident.
The tourist attraction’s social media accounts announced the ride’s closure on Saturday evening. It will remain closed for inspection and repairs, with no reopening date set. Tourists who bought tickets online can get refunds through the purchase platform.
This isn’t the first issue with the Magic Carpet. In January 2023, the ride malfunctioned, descending suddenly and forcing tourists to walk up the mountain. That incident was less severe, with only minor injuries, and the ride was repaired within two hours.
