Jack Black has made a shock announcement about the future of his band Tenacious D, after their Australia and New Zealand tour was cancelled last month.

The 54-year-old School of Rock star was forced to cancel his Spicy Meat Ball Tour after bandmate Kyle Gass made a distasteful joke about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump.

On Wednesday, Black shared an update on the musical act, after telling fans that future creative plans were on hold.

“I love Tenacious D… We had to take a break, but I love the D,” he said Entertainment tonight.

“Everybody takes a break sometimes. We’ll be back,” he added.

Tenacious D was on stage in Sydney, Australia on Sunday, July 14, when Black grabbed a birthday cake for bandmate Kyle Gass and asked him to make a wish.

Gass responded, “Don’t miss Trump next time.”

The audience reacted mostly with cheers and laughter, apart from a few disappointed reactions.

However, Gass received a lot of criticism for this comment.

He later posted a statement on social media, writing: “The line I improvised on stage in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake.

‘I do not condone any form of violence, against anyone.

“What happened was a tragedy, and I am deeply sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I sincerely apologize to those I have disappointed and am truly sorry for any pain I have caused.”

Black and Gass canceled their band’s six remaining tours of Australia and New Zealand and later announced that their future creative plans were on hold.

Gass’ comments caused a rift online, with Kyle Sandilands even banning Tenacious D from his radio show for life following the remark.

Speaking on The Kyle & Jackie O show, radio host Sandilands said: “So, this guy wishes death on Trump. A message to our talent bookers: I will not be doing any future Tenacious D interviews.

“Anyone who wishes someone dead who was almost murdered, all jokes aside, it’s too much for me. Anyone who wishes someone else dead is just a piece of shit.”
