LOS ANGELES — A ransomware attack has crippled the computer system of the nation’s largest courthouse, Los Angeles County Courthouse officials said.

The cyberattack began early Friday and is not believed to be related to the defective CrowdStrike software update that has disrupted airlines, hospitals and governments around the world, officials said in a rack Friday.

The court shut down its computer network systems when the attack was discovered, and it will remain offline until at least the weekend. A preliminary investigation shows no evidence that users’ data was compromised, the statement said.

The Superior Court of Los Angeles County is the largest unified superior court in the United States, serving the county’s 10 million residents through 36 courthouses. Nearly 1.2 million cases were tried and 2,200 jury trials were held in 2022.
