Kim vows nuclear response if North Korea’s sovereignty threatened

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un declared that the nation would readily deploy all its offensive capabilities, including nuclear weapons, if its sovereignty were threatened. He criticised South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol for remarks made on Tuesday, suggesting that Yoon’s threats to end the North Korean regime jeopardise regional security and peace.

Yoon’s boast about military power near a nuclear-armed state was ironic and questioned his sanity, according to Kim. If the enemy attempted to use armed force against North Korea, Kim assured, the DPRK would respond decisively with all its offensive forces, including nuclear weapons.

Kim’s statements were made at a training base for army special operation units on Wednesday. North Korea has long pursued nuclear weapons and is believed to possess enough fissile material to construct dozens of such weapons. The country has conducted six underground nuclear tests.

On Tuesday, South Korea celebrated armed forces day with a display of military strength, including a ballistic missile capable of carrying a large warhead and a flypast by a U.S. bomber. In his speech, Yoon warned Pyongyang that any use of nuclear weapons would be met with a strong response from South Korea and its U.S. ally, potentially leading to the end of the North Korean regime.

Kim dismissed the threats, maintaining that the DPRK’s military strength remains unchallenged and that their nuclear weapons will not be relinquished.
