The British could not be blamed for withdrawing from the election after going to the polls earlier this year.

But a new poll shows they’re fascinated by the razor-sharp battle to become US president and voted for who they think would do well in the White House… and it’s Hollywood star Tom Hanks!

With just 30 days to go, starting next Sunday, before Americans go to the vote, a new YouGov Poll for Betfair asked more than 2,000 Brits which famous celebrities they thought would make a good leader of the free world.

Oscar winner Hanks, known for film blockbusters such as Forrest Gump, Saving Private Ryan and Philadelphia, came out overwhelmingly on top with 36 percent of the votes, followed by fellow actor Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson with 22 percent and Oprah Winfrey with 22 percent . 21 percent.

Controversial billionaire Elon Musk is in fourth place with 17 percent, followed by pop superstar Taylor Swift, tennis queen Serena Williams and US-based royal Prince Harry, all with 16 percent.

The least popular choice among Brits was Kim Kardashian, with only 4% of Brits voting for her.

The survey also found that 60 percent of Britons would choose Kamala Harris if they could vote in the US election. While one in five in Britain said they would vote for Trump, that number has almost doubled from four years ago, when Betfair conducted the same survey.

Those between the ages of 18 and 24 are the most likely to support Trump if given a vote, with 32 percent saying they would vote for him, which has nearly tripled since the last election (11 percent).

Betfair spokesman Sam Rosbottom said: ‘Several US celebrities have made successful moves into politics. Trump himself was the frontman of The Apprentice on TV, plus Ronald Reagan and Arnold Schwarzenegger. So we thought it would be fun to find out which stars the British people think would do a good job in the White House.

“It’s not surprising that a beloved actor like Hanks, famous for his likable yet strong on-screen characters, tops the list.

‘Other popular figures such as The Rock and Oprah are also supported as a good leader of the free world.

‘He’s already taken over Twitter, could the White House be next? Nearly one in five Britons believe Elon Musk would make a good American president.’

Betfair’s survey found that the real-life presidential race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris has captured the imagination of the British people, with 60 percent of all respondents saying they are interested in the battle for the White House.

Betfair Exchange, the world’s leading peer-to-peer betting platform, has already seen more than £125 million in stakes across the US election markets, with many more expected in the coming month.

Four years ago, the Betfair Exchange market for the next president broke all records to become the world’s biggest ever gambling event, with £1.7 billion staked in the Trump vs. Biden battle.
