A West Brom supporter died after suffering a ‘medical emergency’ during the Baggies’ 3-2 defeat to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
The club said they were devastated to hear of the fan’s death before manager Carlos Corberan described the tragic event as ‘the worst news’.
‘West Bromwich Albion Football Club is devastated to learn of the tragic death of a supporter following a medical emergency.’ A statement from the club is read. ‘The club has contacted the supporter’s family to convey its condolences and asks if they can mourn privately.
“The thoughts of all of us will remain with the supporter’s loved ones at this desperately sad time.”
Around 3,000 supporters were in the away leg before traveling to South Yorkshire for the lunchtime kick-off. During the first half, supporters called for the match to be stopped.

The championship match at Hillsborough went ahead after stewards and medics came to the fan’s aid.
Corberan said: “Unfortunately we got the worst news. Our supporter passed away after today’s match. All my thoughts are with his family at this very sad time. TEAR.’
