A truck collided with a light rail tram, bringing train traffic to a complete standstill.

The truck driver was treated for minor injuries after the crash at the intersection of Pitt and Hay Streets, in Haymarket in Sydney’s CBD, just before 7am on Friday.

Emergency services, including police and several firefighters, quickly arrived on the scene.

A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia the male truck driver suffered minor injuries.

A woman was treated at the scene for injuries to her arm. Neither patient required hospitalization.

It is not known whether the woman was on the tram when she sustained her injuries.

The collision caused the tram to derail, forcing all 60 passengers on board to exit the tram. Daily Telegraph defeated.

The tram’s windshield was smashed and the front bumper was also damaged when it was crushed by the side of the truck.

After the collision, the truck crashed into a nearby traffic pole.

The area has been cordoned off and Pitt Street has since been closed to motorists.

L1 Dulwich Hill Line services between Convention and Central have now been cancelled, with commuters advised to take the bus instead.

There is still heavy traffic heading north on Pitt Street.

A New South Wales Police spokeswoman told the Daily Mail that officers are investigating the incident.

Craig Moran, acting coordinator-general of Transport for NSW, told 2GB there will be significant delays on the light rail network.

“The light rail has derailed so it will probably be a number of hours before we can get the light rail service running again,” Mr Moran said.
