Penny, his wife of 17 years, appeared equally cheerful as she followed the singer to a waiting car.

The former model looked elegant in a patterned dress in pink, black and turquoise.

She added height by adding a pair of black pointed heels and completed her look with a small black handbag.

The pair walked to their waiting car and appeared tired as they got in and left.

Penny was spotted scrolling on her phone while Rod looked out the window as they headed home.

The couple are said to be desperately trying to rebuild their 17-year marriage after the singer scrapped their plans to sell his $74 million Beverly Hills mansion and return to the UK.

Rod reportedly did not want to leave LA, while Penny, 53, did not want to stay in the US, despite Rod extending his stay in Las Vegas and turning down two offers for their sprawling estate.

The icon claimed he and Penny “couldn’t be more in love” and insisted there is “absolutely no rift” despite claims they disagreed over decisions surrounding the move.

He shared an update on Instagram, writing: ‘We wanted to set the record straight. There is absolutely no rift between Penny and I and no disagreement about where we should live, in fact it’s the other way around.

‘A year ago we moved back to our beloved Britain for good, but we are lucky enough to have homes in other countries that we enjoy visiting.’

Rod continued, “We originally thought it made sense to sell our home in LA, but after spending a great time there with family and friends this summer while I was in Vegas, we realized it made sense to keep our home there. Two of my oldest children still live at Celtic House (the LA residence).

‘Penny and I could not be more in love after 27 glorious years. Please trust me on this…..there is no disharmony in our marriage. Rod ‘a very happy man’ Stewart.’
