Korkut takes seven match points, and although Twomey saves two, the Turk quickly completes the victory and advances to the gold medal match. Twomey must therefore content himself with a bronze medal, a fantastic achievement with much more to come.
Better from the left-handed Twomey, who sweeps back a serve to make it 2-6. She desperately needs a series of points, but seconds later she is 2-8 behind and Korkut only needs three more to reach the final.
I’m afraid Twomey is gone; They are now 0-5 down in the deciding match and Korkut have been ruthless since going 2-0 down.
The women’s T38 long jump final will also take place. Luca Ekler of Hungary leads with a Paralympic record of 5.56 metres, well ahead of Karen Moreno of Colombia, who is in second place with 4.99 metres.
We play a deciding set in table tennis; It’s intense but for now Korkut leads 3-0. Can Twomey pull himself together to respond?
The medal ceremony for the men’s 400 meters T13 will take place at the Stade de Francein which Buinder Bermúdez won bronze. No snaps yet, but the Colombian tracksuits are excellent – below is from the men’s T38 long jump final.
Back to table tennis, Korkut has won the third set and leads Twomey 5-3 in the third. This looks like it’s going all the way, and it deserves to.
There are three riders competing for two medals: Jennette Jansen from the Netherlands, Annika Zeyen-Giles from Germany and Francesca Porcellato from Italy … and Jansen goes! She shoots out of the last corner, Zeyen-Giles reacts but can’t keep up and Porcellato is gone!
Lauren Parker wins gold for Australia in H1-4 women’s road race
An incredible performance by an incredible athlete. The small medals are still to be decided.
And I have the H1-4 women’s road race, which Lauren Parker from Australia competed in; The rest of the field must decide whether they can catch her now, or whether they let her take gold and chart their own course to silver or bronze.
I also look at the morning T&F. In the women’s F57 shot put, Algeria’s Safia Djelal leads with a Paralympic record of 11.56. However, the athletes win all six attempts on the spin and there are still seven competitors to start.
Bly Twomey, a wise 14, playing in the semi-finals of table tennis and leading Turkey’s Kubra Korkut by two sets to love, although trailing 4-2 in the third. If you’re near a TV, I recommend turning this on.
