Ontario woman turns herself in after Porsche theft and assault

Peel Police in Ontario, Canada have arrested 18 year old Sarah Badshaw, accused of stealing a Porsche and running over its owner, an incident that was caught on camera.

Badshaw surrendered to police on Thursday, one day after footage of the event was released. Investigators also confirmed they had recovered the stolen vehicle.

Police stated that on the afternoon of September 6, the suspect arrived at the victim’s Mississauga home near Winston Churchill Boulevard and Eglinton Avenue. She had responded to an Auto Trader listing for a 2022 Porsche Cayenne. The video shows her knocking on the door and telling the owner that she was waiting for her father and wanted to inspect the car.

The video then cuts to the suspect sitting in the Porsche’s driver’s seat. As the car begins to move, the owner attempts to enter but then moves to the back of the vehicle. At that point, the suspect accelerates in reverse, striking the victim and driving onto the street.

Peel police Constable Tyler Bell said the video, which was shared over 95,000 times within 24 hours, led to a flood of tips from the public. Social media played a crucial role in helping to quickly identify the suspect, ultimately pressuring her to turn herself in.

Bell described the theft as particularly bold and noted that the victim avoided more serious injuries thanks to “luck and physics.” Badshaw is also linked to multiple other investigations in Peel and the Greater Toronto Area, including fraud-related charges.

A Brampton resident, Badshaw now faces four charges related to the theft, including motor vehicle theft and dangerous operation causing bodily harm.

Bell highlighted that in this case, social media had proven as powerful as traditional police resources, remarking that while people say you can’t outrun a helicopter, Badshaw couldn’t outrun the “share button.”
