Fans have showered Arne Slot with praise after the Liverpool manager gave a scathing analysis of Man United’s problems on Sunday afternoon.

Slot was partly responsible for his Liverpool team’s 3-0 victory at Old Trafford, with Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah both scoring for the Reds.

It was Slot’s third league game as manager and his third win in a row. His team is also the only team not to have conceded a goal in the Premier League so far.

The Dutchman’s tactics are paying off and after Sunday’s match he gave fans an insight into his analysis after unravelling the structural problems at United.

Speaking with Sky SportSlot said: ‘Last season they were man-marking in midfield, and they had a pressure with the seven and 11 (the wingers). So with the striker, and one of the wingers jumped with him.

Slot unravelled United’s structural problems that led to Sunday’s heavy defeat

“This season they are more with a 9 and 10 press, so they are more in a 4-4-2. That is of course different. I see them, in my opinion, working harder when the ball is played through them, so they run more. At least that is what I saw in their first games.

‘Their style is also – this is maybe last season, I don’t remember – but their full-backs, nine times out of ten, are really high, and then Casemiro comes in. So if you pick up the ball and you can keep Diaz and Mo Salah high, then you’re constantly in a one-on-one situation.

‘Then you need midfielders who can run, and we had three today who kept running, and when they come into a duel, they are aggressive enough to win it. So that was, I think, one of the main reasons why we were able to win today.’

Fans were quick to praise Slot’s post-match analysis, with one supporter writing on X: ‘Slot knows the ball. Barely spent anything this season. 3 games, 3 clean sheets. Here he is analysing the problems with United’s line-up. ETH blames individual errors in his interview.’

One frustrated United fan wrote: ‘Arne Slot perfectly explained our style of play under Ten Hag and how his team beat them outright in about two minutes on Sky Sports today. He can’t be an asshole.’

Another said: ‘Arne Slot tore Ten Hag’s tactics not only for this game but also for last season to shreds in 2 minutes and it all shows the tactical naivety of Ten Hag. See also his emphasis on ‘midfielders who can run’, which is very unfavourable for any PL team, but Ten Hag refuses to solve that problem’.

After the match, Slot stressed that he wants to enjoy Mohamed Salah’s talents for as long as possible, after the Egyptian scored one goal and set up two in Liverpool’s 3-0 win.

Salah, 32, is in the final season of his Liverpool contract and admitted afterwards that he saw it as his last appearance at Old Trafford.

Asked about Salah’s comments, Slot said: “It’s a lot of ‘ifs’. At the moment he is one of us and I am very happy that he is one of us and he played very well. I don’t talk about player contracts, but I can talk for hours about how Mo played today.”

“Everything you want to see as a manager, you saw in this match,” said Slot.

‘There were difficult moments for us. United started very well, but then we disallowed a goal and we didn’t react negatively to that.

‘We kept playing, scored three, we could have scored more, Alisson made two important saves and the game was played incredibly well without the ball. That makes it a very positive day.’
