It’s been forty-five years since she shot to fame when she ran down a Mexican beach with dark brown skin, a glittering gold swimsuit and her hair in beaded braids.
She was only 23 years old at the time, but was hailed by fans and the media around the world as the ‘perfect woman’, with her high cheekbones, symmetrical face, sky blue eyes and stunning figure.
Nearly fifty years later, the petite blonde, dressed in a green floral blouse, white linen pants, canvas sneakers and dark sunglasses, blended in perfectly as she waited patiently for her salad at the Field + Fort Cafe in Summerland, California.

Hollywood veteran Bo Derek, who at 67 is still as beautiful as ever, seemed to enjoy her anonymity.
She watched as other customers lined up to order their food, smiling at their dogs and seeming to enjoy people watching.
Bo was what residents of Summerland and Montecito call an “extreme heat refugee” from the nearby Santa Ynez Valley, where she lives on a 25-acre ranch with her second husband, John Corbett, 63.
That day, the temperature in Santa Ynez reached a stifling 108 degrees Fahrenheit. It was no surprise that she and her friend got in the car and drove 36 miles south to Summerland. This coastal town, just south of Montecito, is at least 80-90 degrees cooler in the summer.
“Ah, I love that ocean breeze,” Bo was heard saying to her friend as she lifted her famous face to take a deep breath.
After lunch, the two went to the retail section of Field + Fort, where Bo visited the Flamingo Estates section, which sold books, candles, soaps and lotions.
They were later seen visiting the nearby Mary Suding Antiques on Lillie Avenue.

A new pop-up clothing store at The Big Yellow House in Summerland caught their attention with its colorful display of goods just off the parking lot.
Bo was seen looking at a bright pink silk floral dress on a clothes rack which she later purchased.
Afterwards we headed to the famous Summerland Antique Collective, which has a large celebrity clientele and is a favorite of Oprah Winfrey.
A teak garden furniture set caught Bo’s attention and she leaned over to look at the price.
The two friends were gone for over an hour before leaving for Santa Barbara.
Bo rose to fame in the 1979 film 10, in which he co-stars with Dudley Moore. His character becomes obsessed with her after seeing her at her wedding and travels to Mexico with her and her new husband.
The film’s title refers to Moore’s assessment of Derek’s appearance on a scale of one to ten.
And Bo has pretty much maintained that assessment as she’s gotten older. She’s chosen not to have plastic surgery and to age naturally.

In 2018, she told Closer magazine: ‘There’s a certain expectation [to look young].
‘On the one hand I’m being praised for not having a facelift, but on the other hand I’m thinking, “Oh my God, why isn’t she doing anything?”
“So you’re just torn. I just have to keep busy, have other interests and try not to think about it.”
She said she is enjoying her life with Sex and The City actor Corbett on their ranch ‘Cliff Manor’ in Santa Ynez: ‘We have a beautiful house with horses and dogs.’
Bo keeps her 5-foot-10 frame fit by skipping the gym and swimming and just doing exercises on the ranch, she says.

She was renamed ‘Bo’ by her first husband, actor and director John Derek (right) – thirty years her senior – whom she met at age 16. They were married until his death in 1998.

Born Mary Cathleen Collins in Long Beach, California, Bo was a beauty from the start when she worked as a child model.
She was renamed “Bo” by her first husband, actor and director John Derek, who was thirty years her senior. She met him at age 16 and married him in 1976 at age 18.
John Derek died in 1998 at the age of 71 from heart failure.
She met her current husband John Corbett in 2002 and they married in 2020.
