19 hurt after jail transport van collides with second vehicle, strikes pole northwest of Chicago

    ROUND LAKE, Illinois — Nineteen people were injured when a prison van collided with another vehicle and struck a pole in northeastern Illinois on Wednesday.

    There were 16 inmates in the van headed to the McHenry County Jail, Grayslake Hainesville Police Chief Jeff Myhra said in a Facebook post.

    The crash occurred around 1 p.m. in Round Lake when the second vehicle turned left in front of the van. Two people were critically injured. The number of injured inmates was not immediately released.

    The crash is under investigation.

    Round Lake is located approximately 50 miles northwest of Chicago.
