Steph Curry made a shocking appearance at the Democratic National Convention on Thursday night to endorse Kamala Harris as the next president of the United States.

Two weeks after inspiring the U.S. men’s basketball team to win gold at the Paris Olympics, Curry appeared on the big screen at the United Center in Chicago, Illinois, to urge the country to vote for Harris over Republican leader Donald Trump later this year.

The American athlete first spoke openly about the “honor” of winning Olympic gold, adding in a pre-recorded video message: “That unity on and off the field reminded us that together we can do anything and continue to inspire the world.”

He continued: ‘That’s why I believe Kamala as president can bring back that unity and move our country forward. This is about keeping hope and faith in our country, making sure families can be cared for in the most precious of times.

‘Last year I visited Kamala with my team at the White House and I can tell you one thing I knew then and I know now: the Oval Office is a good fit for her.

‘So in the words of Michelle Obama, do something! Get out the vote, get active. Let’s show up in November like never before.

“It’s an honor for me to represent our country, and it’s an honor to support Kamala, so let’s all do our part.”

Curry, whose 24 points helped the US defeat host France in the final of the men’s Olympic basketball tournament, previously aligned himself with the Democrats in the 2020 presidential election.

On the eve of the Olympic Games in Paris, he also expressed his hope that Harris will win the election this year.

“Interesting times in our country right now,” the Golden State Warriors point guard said. “Hopefully we win the election with her on the ticket. It’s a big deal, to say the least.”

Before the 2020 election, Curry and his wife Ayesha announced that they would vote for Joe Biden over Trump that year.

“We want to make sure our children live in a safe, happy, healthy and fair country, and that’s exactly what we want with this election,” Ayesha said at the start of the video.

“We’re voting for Joe Biden,” Steph said.

Curry has had run-ins with Trump in the past, including turning down an opportunity to visit the White House during his previous term as president in 2017.

Trump responded by rescinding his invitation to play for Golden State’s NBA championship team on Twitter (now X).
