The bizarre reason why Tosin Adarabioyo is missing from Chelsea’s squad for their Europa Conference League clash against Servette has been revealed.

The Blues were left in amazement at their squad sheet for the match against Switzerland as fans noted that the new signing had been ruled out of the European match.

The central defender made a free move to West London this summer after making 132 appearances for Fulham in four years.

Another notable absentee was Raheem Sterling, whose absence from the squad to play against Manchester City last weekend led to wild speculation over his future at Stamford Bridge.

But now Adarabioyo has been reinstated in Chelsea’s 22-man squad after it emerged he was only left out due to an ‘administrative error’.

Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol posted on X, formerly Twitter: ‘Tosin Adarabioyo has been added back to Chelsea’s UEFA squad for tomorrow’s Europa Conference League match against Servette.

“He was locked out yesterday due to a clerical error.”

Thursday’s match at Stamford Bridge is the first of two games between the teams in a play-off round to qualify for the Conference League group stage. The next game is in Switzerland on August 29.

Sterling was left out of the Blues squad for the second game in a row after also being ruled out of Sunday’s match against the champions.

The forward joined Chelsea from Manchester City in 2022 and has scored 19 goals in 81 games since then, but is among the players the club are interested in selling.

Asked if Sterling should be left out, Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca replied: “I want Raheem Sterling, but we have 30 players and there is not enough space for them all, so some have to go.”

He added: ‘The manager has to make some decisions. Sometimes players don’t like it, that’s normal. Just a technical decision, nothing more. With Raheem we will clarify it in the coming days.’

Sterling has been linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge this summer, with his absence from the squad suggesting his future at Chelsea could lie elsewhere.

Ben Chilwell is also missing from Thursday’s squad, fuelling rumours that he too is prepared to leave.
