This is the moment the landing gear of a US military plane failed during an emergency landing in Colombia.

A bystander captured on video the Beechcraft C-12C Huron landing on the runway at Bogotá’s El Dorado International Airport on Thursday afternoon when the plane suffered a mechanical failure.

Video footage shows the US Air Force plane slowing down on the runway and its landing gear suddenly collapsing.

The pilot was able to control the aircraft and bring it to a safe stop in the middle of the runway.

An aircraft fire brigade and a fire truck were seen following the aircraft and extinguishing the fire on the ground to prevent the fuel from causing a fire.

The plane remained on the ground for nearly five hours, preventing the airport from handling takeoffs and landings from the north-side runway.

Video footage released by Colombia’s civil aviation authority shows special inflatable devices being placed under the wings of the two planes.

A separate video showed a crane lifting the plane off the ground.

A similar incident occurred in April 2018, when a Beechcraft C-12C Huron operated by the U.S. Embassy requested an emergency landing in Colombia.

The plane took off from Antonio Nariño Airport in Pasto, Nariño and was en route to El Caraño Airport in Quibdó, Chocó when the pilot reported problems with the landing gear.

The plane was diverted to La Florida Airport in Tumaco, Nariño, 685 miles southwest of Bogotá. No injuries were reported.

The Foreign Office told The Daily Mail that “a Beechcraft C-12 belonging to the US Embassy’s Department of Defence suffered a mechanical failure”, forcing a hard landing at El Dorado airport.

“Although the pilot recovered the aircraft safely, the incident required a brief runway closure. There were no injuries to the crew or ground crew,” the department said in a statement.
