The real reason behind The Project’s airborne evacuation has been revealed.
Star Sam Taunton revealed on social media on Wednesday night that he was responsible for the fire alarm that caused the panel show to be replaced by an episode of The Dog House Australia.
“Sorry guys. I put the white toast in the toaster on the multigrain setting. My bad,” the comedian wrote on a video post of the event by co-star Sarah Harris.
However, on Thursday morning, Harris admitted the real reason behind the blunder.
“It was a false alarm,” the 43-year-old told the Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday morning. “Apparently there was something wrong with the air conditioning that caused it to go off.”
A Fire and Rescue Victoria spokesperson confirmed they responded to a false alarm after a smoke alarm malfunctioned.
Channel 10 was thrown into chaos on Wednesday night when The Project was abruptly pulled from air, with the show’s presenters forced to dramatically leave the Melbourne set.
Viewers at home were left scratching their heads when at 6:49pm the news program presented by Waleed Aly, Harris and Taunton suddenly disappeared from the screens during the commercial break and was replaced by an episode of The Dog House Australia.

As the series about unwanted dogs aired across the country, videos circulated at the bottom of the screens, alerting viewers to the alarming events.
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, please enjoy this screening of The Dog House,” the text read vaguely.
A Channel 10 employee decided to make the most of the chaos by turning it into social media content for the low-ratings show.
“The fire alarm has gone off and we need to evacuate,” the crew member began.

“It seems like fire safety is more important than infotainment. That seems crazy to me,” they continued as they walked down a fire escape.
‘But remember, these are the rules of evacuation in show business, which means the kids and celebrities go first, and then the regular people.
“So, Waleed and Sarah, they were taken out of here while we were taking the stairs.”

The video then shows the crew member leaving the Channel 10 studios as fire trucks approach with flashing lights.
Outside, Aly and Harris could be seen smiling nervously as they followed the crowd from the building to a safe area, still wearing their microphones.
“This is how we’re supposed to do the show,” Aly joked. “Let me just clarify, I didn’t ask for a night off. This isn’t part of some grand plan.
“I literally have no idea what’s happening and it’s never happened before in my life,” he continued.
Harris jumped on the lighthearted joke and asked, “Who was making toast, I want to know. Who was making toast?”
“Apparently we’re airing The Dog House,” the crew member said, to which Harris laughed and replied, “If the ratings go up, we’ll…”
Later, we saw the panelists running down the street and squeezing into an elevator on their way back to the studio.

“There was a fire alarm in our building and we had to leave,” Aly explained.
“We shouldn’t have just left,” Sarah protested.
“Who made our fire plan? We met a mile away,” Aly asked, joking about the turn of events.
Later in the episode, Jamie Oliver took the mistake seriously.
“First of all, can I apologize for the fire alarm? I sent someone over to make some appetizers and look what happened,” the celebrity chef joked.
In a message shared with X by the program, it was revealed that a fire alarm went off in the studio, causing the show to come to an abrupt halt and forcing the presenters and crew to evacuate the Como Centre in South Yarra, where the show was being filmed.
