    A cyclist was taken to hospital with head injuries after she was hit by a car at a busy intersection in the city during rush hour.

    Emergency services rushed to the scene of the crash after reports of a collision on the corner of Margaret Street and Kent Street, in Sydney’s CBD, shortly before 5pm on Thursday.

    Police blocked off the area to protect the injured woman lying in the road.

    The collision took place in front of dozens of shocked bystanders, who rushed to the cyclist’s aid and supported her until emergency services arrived.

    The woman’s orange bicycle, lying next to her on the road, appeared intact.

    There are cycle paths on both streets near the spot where the woman was hit.

    A NSW Ambulance spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia three ambulances were at the scene.

    “Paramedics treated a woman in her 30s with a head injury,” he said.

    The cyclist was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital, where she is in a stable condition.

    Daily Mail Australia contacted New South Wales police for comment.
