Rory McIlroy was seen wearing his wedding ring at the Scottish Open after calling off his divorce from Erica Stoll last month.

The Northern Ireland star will be competing for the first time since missing out on the US Open title last month.

McIlroy had retired from the golf world and had not been on the golf course for the past three weeks following his implosion at Pinehurst and the drama surrounding his divorce.

The four-time major winner makes his official return to golf in Scotland at the first tournament before the Open Championship.

McIlroy was featured in the Pro-Am event ahead of the Scottish Open on Friday.

McIlroy was spotted playing with his wedding ring, a further indication of his reconciliation with Erica Stoll, his wife of seven years.

On the eve of the US Open, he announced that he was calling off the divorce.

Just a month earlier, before the PGA Championship in May, McIlroy announced that he and Erica were separating because their marriage was “irretrievably broken.”

He addressed speculation about his relationship status in a statement to The Guardian, saying: “There have been rumours about my personal life recently, which is unfortunate. Responding to every rumour is a fool’s game.

“Over the past few weeks, Erica and I have realized that our best future as a family is together. Thankfully, we have resolved our differences and are looking forward to a new beginning.”

Just weeks after their reunion, it appears the romance between the two has been rekindled as they were spotted out and about in a rare public setting.

The McIlroys enjoyed a night out with his Ryder Cup teammates and their partners in London on Sunday evening before they are expected to travel to Scotland for this week’s event.

Diane Donald, the wife of successful European captain Luke Donald, shared a photo of the group outing on her Instagram story, which included Sister Sledge’s ‘We Are Family’.

McIlroy is now back in the golf world, three weeks after his implosion at Pinehurst.

In the final round of last month’s major, McIlroy held a two-stroke lead after making three bogeys on the last five holes and missing two putts from a total distance of more than seven feet.

Minutes after taking victory, Bryson DeChambeau left the course and less than 24 hours later announced he would not compete in another tournament until the Tour takes place in Scotland this week.

In a statement on social media after the US Open, McIlroy said: ‘Yesterday was a tough day, probably the toughest I’ve had in my almost 17 years as a professional golfer.

“First of all, I want to congratulate Bryson. He is a worthy champion and exactly what professional golf needs right now. I think we can all agree on that.

‘When I look back on my week, I will regret a few things that happened during the tournament, especially the 2 missed putts on 16 and 18 on the final day. But as I always try to do, I will look at the positives of the week that far outweigh the negatives.

‘As I said at the beginning of the tournament, I feel closer to winning my next major championship than ever before.

“The one word I would use to describe my career is resilient. I have shown my resilience time and time again over the last 17 years and I will continue to do so.

‘I’m going to take a few weeks off to process everything and build myself back up for my defence of the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open at Royal Troon.’

McIlroy will be looking to put his US Open disappointment behind him at The Renaissance Club before attempting to end his decade-long drought of major victories at Royal Troon.
