On Monday evening, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) said it has constituted a committee to probe into the incident at a coaching centre in the Old Rajinder Nagar area of the national capital. It said the committee will submit its report within 30 days.
The committee will inquire into the reasons, fix responsibility, suggest measures and recommend policy changes, it said. The committee will comprise Additional Secretary, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, Principal Secretary (Home), Delhi government, Special Commissioner of Police, Delhi Police, a fire services advisor and the Joint Secretary, MHA, who will be the convener.

He also announced action against officials of Delhi Fire Services (DFS), police and the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) within 24 hours if they are found guilty of dereliction of duty, the LG’s office said.
A joint task force of MCD and DFS, constituted following the Delhi High Court’s order in the fire incident at a coaching centre in Mukherjee Nagar earlier this year, will also conduct a survey of all buildings in the Rajinder Nagar area, the report said. It will seal all basements and other illegal structures that violate the building bye-laws, Master Plan Delhi 2021 and fire safety norms, the statement said.
The Delhi incident in which three government employees were killed drew widespread applause in Parliament, with Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar calling the culture of coaching centres a “gas chamber” and Minister Manohar Lal Khattar blaming the AAP government’s “recklessness” for the tragedy.
Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said accountability should be fixed so that such incidents do not happen again and no politics should be played over them.
