Kate Winslet has revealed a big secret about her iconic kiss scene with Leonardo DiCaprio in Titanic.
Rewatching the scene during an interview with Vanity fair, the actress, 48, recalled the moment she and DiCaprio, 49, locked lips at the top of a replica of the famous doomed ship.
The Oscar winner explained it was filmed on an area of the set that was difficult to access, preventing the hair and makeup team from being there.
“This was part of the ship. It wasn’t part of the full ship set that we had. It was kind of a cut-off piece. We had to climb a ladder to get to it… hair and makeup couldn’t reach us,” she explained.
As a result, Winslet was tasked with touching up the couple’s makeup and was in charge of carrying the makeup and brushes in her corset.
Winslet patted her torso and said, “I’ve been hiding here and here. I have his makeup, brushes and sponge, and my makeup, brushes and sponge on the other side.”
“I was actually redoing our makeup between takes.
“We kept kissing, and I had a lot of light makeup on and I had to check our makeup – on both of us, between takes – and I looked like I’d sucked on a caramel chocolate bar after every take, because his makeup came off on me.”

DiCaprio faced the same problem, as Kate’s much lighter makeup kept rubbing off on his face during filming.
Winslet said the scene was also difficult to film because DiCaprio couldn’t hold back his laughter and director James Cameron wanted perfect lighting.
“This was a nightmare, shooting this, because we couldn’t stop laughing, and we had to reshoot this about four times because the light was – Jim obviously wanted a very specific light for this – and the sunsets kept changing where we were. were,” she explained.

Speaking to Variety, she said: “I actually felt a little beaten up by it, honestly… I had a lovely family, but all my family saw was, ‘My God, Kate’s got work in a really big movie.’ You don’t want to turn around to your mom and dad and say, ‘It’s actually really hard.’
