A Good Morning Britain regular has been rushed to intensive care after a “nightmarish” hospital stay.

Iain Dale undergoes emergency surgery to remove his gallbladder, after three long hours in the emergency room.

The 62-year-old presenter and political commentator regularly appears as a commentator on the breakfast programme and is also a presenter at LBC and various podcasts.

He initially thought he was suffering from ‘severe food poisoning’ and was therefore absent from the radio on Monday. But Iain’s symptoms soon worsened and he realised his condition was more serious.

On Tuesday morning he informed his fans via X (formerly Twitter).

He wrote: ‘First of all, thank you for all the well wishes. I went to the ER last night at 9pm with acute pain in the right side of my chest.

‘I am now in intensive care awaiting surgery to remove my gallbladder. Not ideal, in fact it is a nightmare. The NHS care at Tunbridge Wells Hospital has been excellent so far.’

He kept his 274,000 followers updated on the whole process by tweeting a photo from the emergency room on Monday night with the caption: ‘The reason I’m not hosting my show tonight…’

In the early hours of Tuesday morning, he added: ‘Three and a half hours in the ER and it looks like a gallbladder problem. They’re running tests. I may have to come back tomorrow.’

Iain’s latest update has left fans stunned and well-wishers, who took to the social media app en masse:

    ‘Jesus! Get well soon!’

“I wish you a speedy recovery, Iain.”

‘Good luck! I hope everything goes well!’
