Finance expert Queenie Tan reveals how Aussies can save big by making one change to their spending habits – and we’re all guilty of doing it

A popular financial influencer has revealed how one simple change could save Australians hundreds of dollars during the cost of living crisis

A popular financial influencer has revealed how Australians can save hundreds of dollars with one simple change during the cost of living crisis.

Queenie Tan from Sydney said she ‘left the takeaway’ and invested in a Thermomix after becoming a mother and the results were amazing.

“It has made all the difference since giving birth, as we no longer have to rely on frozen meals or take-out during the hectic postpartum period,” she said.

‘Making my favourite takeaway meals in my Thermomix means I can satisfy my cravings without all those hidden nasties that make me feel guilty the next day.

“I really think it will save me money in the long run… and it’s healthier too.”

New research from Thermomix distributor The Mix Australia and New Zealand shows people are still spending money on takeaway food because they value convenience over saving money.

“The problem is that people don’t realise how much money they spend on things like takeaway food, and it adds up quickly,” Tan said.

“It may not seem like much in the short term, but even saving $5 or $10 every week can make a big difference in the long run.”

With people from all walks of life still struggling, Ms Tan encouraged financially strapped Australians to think about what they can cut from their budgets.

“If you’re on a lower income, you might want to look at things like your ‘essential expenses’, like ‘how can I save on transport costs?’ or ‘how can I save on my housing costs?’” she told Daily Mail Australia.

“The wealthier people who have more expenses, such as entertainment spending, may want to cut back in those areas.”

Ms Tan said people can find some room in their budget to save a little money here and there and that this can make a huge difference.

“I know it seems like a lot of money, but if you want to save $10,000 a year, that’s actually $27.40 a day,” she explains.

“If you want to save $1,000 a year, that’s only $2.74 a day.

“If you can find ways to change your budget even a little bit, it can really make a big difference.”

Ms Tan believes that many people are struggling because of the housing crisis.

“I think it’s mostly about housing, honestly. There was a report that said we’re the second most unaffordable housing market in the world,” she said.

‘If that takes up a big chunk of your budget, there’s little room for anything else,

“It’s very difficult for people, but I would say, no matter how difficult it is right now, there is always hope.”
