Death in custody of man who was ‘acting erratically’ during routine welfare check to be investigated

    Queensland Police are launching an internal investigation after a man died in custody on Saturday.

    At around 11.50am, emergency services were called to Alice Street in Maryborough in south-east Queensland for a welfare check.

    Police say they responded to reports of a man in his 30s acting strangely before being subdued.

    The man was sedated and taken to hospital by ambulance.

    According to police, he suffered a medical episode and died a short time later.

    The incident is being investigated by the Queensland Police Ethical Standards Command.
