Twisters is set largely in Oklahoma, and the vast majority of production also took place in this American state.

Twisters is the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 film Twister, which starred Daisy as Kate Cooper, a young woman traumatized by a tornado who returns home when her boyfriend Javi (Anthony Ramos) introduces her to a new system for mapping storm paths.

But the two collide with Tyler Owens (Powell), a high-profile storm chaser who risks his life to get close to tornadoes for lucrative social media content.

A trailer for the film was released in May, which opens with an Oklahoma rodeo as the audience watches a bull rider, followed by a storm siren.

The animals fled with the crowd and a truck trying to drive away from the chaos was lifted by the wind and thrown into an electric billboard.

“A once-in-a-generation tornado outbreak continues to occur in Oklahoma,” a TV weatherman reported. Kate was watching the storm from a distance at a federal weather agency.

A supervisor called Kate for tornado assistance after he admitted he had never seen tornadoes like this before.

“No, I don’t hunt anymore,” Kate said.

When told her help could save lives, Kate reluctantly agreed to give him a week.

Kate went to Oklahoma with NASA and FEMA experts and was surprised when Tyler Owens, played by Glen, a self-proclaimed “tornado expert,” arrived.

“If you feel it,” Tyler told his adoring fans. “Follow it!” they shouted back.

At the end of the broadcast it was stated that Universal Pictures is partnering with the American Red Cross to help people affected by disasters.

Twisters is a sequel to the 1996 film Twister starring Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz and Cary Elwes.

In this classic film, two storm chasers on the verge of divorce are forced to work together and create an advanced weather warning system by exposing themselves to extremely violent tornadoes.

Since starring in the film, Glen has hoped Twisters could open the door for more films focused on middle class America.

“I grew up in and around Texas and I know that there are large parts of America that don’t get to see enough movies,” Glen said in an interview with The Telegraph.

‘New York and Los Angeles dictate what gets made, but there’s a lot more audience to consider.’

The Twisters star also revealed that filming his 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You with Sydney Sweeney helped him realize what he was missing.

“One of the things I’ve discovered recently is that when studios say a genre is dead, it just means there’s a huge opportunity because there’s no market being served,” Glen continues.

“The business stopped making romantic comedies, apparently, because romantic comedies weren’t making money in theaters. But I don’t think there’s a problem that Hollywood has that can’t be solved by a really good movie.”

The former Scream Queens director hopes he can serve the regions – such as the “large part” where he comes from – with more of the films they want.

Glen has decided to move back to his home state of Texas to finish his studies and be closer to his family.

In May he said The Hollywood Reporter that he’s reaping the rewards of “getting to this point in Hollywood is that I can now leave Hollywood. It’s like I’ve earned the ability to go back to my family.”

Glen said this about Hollywood parties: “I think you have enough of them already, so you want to have your family as close as possible – or run to them.”

The Top Gun: Maverick actor continued, “I think this is good for my head, heart and soul.”

Twisters opens in UK cinemas from Wednesday 17th July and in US cinemas from Friday 19th July.
