Conor McGregor has made another interesting bet, placing £365,000 on Argentina to win the Copa America this summer.

The recent bet comes shortly after the UFC star placed a £60,000 bet on Cristiano Ronaldo to win the Golden Boot at Euro 2024.

It remains to be seen whether Ronaldo will take on McGregor’s role, as he has not yet managed to score in any of his four matches.

Ronaldo missed a penalty against Slovenia in Portugal’s round of 16, but managed to score in the penalty shootout that followed extra time.

Still, McGregor is confident that Lionel Messi and his Argentina team can emerge as winners of the Copa America this summer.

That’s why he has bet no less than £365,000 on winning the trophy on July 14. The Irishman will then receive more than £1 million back.

The World Cup winners are seen as the favourites to win the tournament, ahead of Brazil and Uruguay.

Fortunately for McGregor, the pressure of being the favourite doesn’t seem to have affected their performance, as they top their group with three wins from three matches.

McGregor shared a screenshot of his bet on social media with the following caption: ‘The World Cup champions Argentina want to follow in The Mac’s footsteps and become The Champ Champs by winning the Copa América trophy. The OG Champ Champ is behind you!’.

McGregor posted his message just days after admitting he was in “a lot of pain” after watching UFC 303 fight week go ahead without him.

It was supposed to be a big comeback for the most famous name in MMA after a three-year absence from the octagon, but he withdrew due to a broken toe suffered during sparring.

His match against Michael Chandler was replaced on short notice by a rematch between Alex Pereira and Jiri Prochazka.

A McGregor fight week is normally packed with incident and entertainment and it seems the man himself is terribly missing being part of the show.

He wrote on X: ‘I would be lying if I said I wasn’t in deep pain watching Fight Week. Deep mental pain. Thank you for the messages of support and encouragement, my colleagues and fans.’

McGregor had already announced a few days earlier that he was withdrawing from the match due to an injury he sustained during training.

He wrote: ‘Man we were so f***ing super ready for this fight, it’s really heartbreaking to take. I want that new Bugatti, how can I justify getting it now without banking on these fights.

‘We had a lapse in concentration and went to do a training session without wearing full protective gear and I stubbed my toe off my elbow and broke the toe clean. It takes a couple of weeks, that’s all.

“I couldn’t justify to my team, or the fans, that I would obstruct the walk again. That walk has been seen. This next walk must, and will, be 100% Conor McGregor. The fans deserve it and we’re getting close.

“A slight lapse in concentration and a nasty injury were picked up. That’s it. Learn from it and move on. I’ll get this back. I have to. I’ve got two more fights on my contract.

‘I’ve got Bugattis and more yachts on my mind. I’m here to shine. I just have to take my time. ‘Cause I’ve still got yachts and Bentleys and mansions and all the rest of it. You know yourself. But you get me, I’ll be back. See you soon. See you at the top. Chandler or not.’

McGregor also showed an x-ray and a photo of his bruised little toe and is keen to return to action this year. However, Dana White says he will wait until the Irishman is fully healed before booking him again.
