    Arsenal are reportedly close to a deal with Bologna for Riccardo Calafiori.

    As reported by Heaven ItalyDiscussions over the payment structure are still ongoing, with Bologna seeking a figure of £42.2m.

    Personal terms are not expected to be an issue as Arsenal want to land the defender.

    Calafiori joined Bologna from Basel last year for just £3.4m. If he leaves, the Swiss club will receive 50 per cent of Bologna’s profits.

    Calafiori can play as a centre-back or left-back and has made five appearances for Italy, including three at Euro 2024.

    Calafiori played 33 games for Bologna and helped the club qualify for the Champions League for the first time.

    The defender came through the ranks at Roma, where he made 18 first-team appearances. Calafiori also spent time on loan at Genoa before signing for Basel in 2022.

    Arsenal’s only signing so far this summer has been David Raya, a permanent move from Brentford after spending last season on loan.

    Calafiori’s versatility could be a major asset for Arteta, who likes his players to be able to play in a variety of positions.
