Vogue Williams revealed she would have left her husband Spencer Matthews if he hadn’t given up alcohol, as she discussed his ‘unhealthy’ relationship with booze.
The presenter, 38, also admitted that she considers herself a ‘binge drinker’ because she doesn’t like the taste of alcohol.
The Irish native married former Made In Chelsea star Spencer, 35, in 2018 and the couple share three children together Theo, five, Gigi, three, and Otto, two.
Speaking about the How to Fail with the Elizabeth Day Podcastthe mother of three confessed that she would have ended her relationship with Spencer if he continued drinking like he did before.
She revealed: ‘I think the way he drank, yeah for sure. ‘Cause with my dad and all, even though he was a heavy drinker, he wasn’t a drinker.

‘He didn’t wake up in the morning and drink, but I knew where he was at 5pm. He was always in the pub every day without fail.’
She also previously discussed Spencer’s unhealthy relationship with alcohol and admitted he “achieved so much more” after quitting the booze.
She confessed, “He was watching me work and I was getting really cool jobs and doing better things, and he just wasn’t very productive.”
‘Then he decided to quit drinking himself and as soon as he did he achieved so much more and his career has completely changed since he did.’
‘His life has completely changed and he has now reached a point where he can have a drink every now and then. I think it’s very helpful that I don’t want to drink all the time, we never have anything to drink in the house.’
“It’s not because we’re afraid we’ll drink it, we just never want to.”
“So he did that for himself and I think that was a pretty amazing thing to do.”
Vogue also admitted that she has a love-hate relationship with alcohol and doesn’t drink often because she doesn’t like the taste.
While talking about Spencer appearing on another podcast, the star revealed that he once admitted that “Vogue and I used to binge drink three times a week.”

To which Vogue laughed and confessed: ‘He did the podcast and he was like ‘yeah, Vogue and I were binge drinking three times a week’, I thought I never binge drank three times a week, it sounds so bad . ‘
‘I’m a binge drinker because I don’t really like the taste of alcohol, so if you see me drinking alcohol, I’m drinking it for one reason, and that’s to get drunk.’
Vogue also admitted to Elizabeth that drinking was a “big part” of her life growing up, but claimed it was “unusual” for Spencer.
She revealed: ‘Drinking was a big part of our lives growing up with everyone around us, but I think with Spenny it was unusual for him to drink so much.’
“Because his parents aren’t big drinkers, his brother isn’t a big drinker, it was just him.”
“I think that level of drinking is too high to be productive or have a family.”
‘It would have been very difficult for him to achieve anything if he had kept up that level of drinking.’
The podcast interview comes after Spencer recalled how alcohol took over his life and threatened to end his relationship before making the sudden decision to get sober.
During his years as a city estate agent in London and up to his Made In Chelsea days, drinking became a cornerstone of the TV star’s life.
But it was when he met and married his wife Vogue in his late twenties that alcohol began to threaten his future plans and his desire to settle down.
Speaking on The Mail Everything I know about me podcast, Spencer admitted about his past behavior: “There was the certainty that if I continued drinking the way I was drinking, I would lose Vogue.”
He recalled how he and Vogue went out together in the early months of their romance, after meeting on the 2017 reality show The Jump, admitting ‘we had a very social, quite drunken relationship.’
Alcohol even brought the couple, now parents of three, together, as he admits he was perhaps most dependent on booze around the time they met. ‘I think anyone who was at The Jump will tell you it was quite something,” he explained.
“Even though I sobered up when I made it to the finals, ten days before the finals I just went and won!”
Speaking on The Mail’s Everything I Know About Me podcast, Spencer admitted about his past behaviour: ‘It was a certainty that I would lose Vogue if I continued drinking the way I was drinking’
“When I won, I kind of did a mental bow and lost everything. I started to feel like I was a real mess. And that was a bit unusual for me.”
However, Spencer explained that even though Vogue was “drinking and drinking to get drunk every few days,” he would continue “and that was every day.”
‘She doesn’t mind when I tell her she’s a big drinker. She actually hates alcohol, she can’t stand being hungover. She doesn’t like the taste of liquor, but she drinks to get drunk. At the time, she drank every few days to get drunk. Now it’s like once a month,” Spencer explained.
‘On the days off I drank and she didn’t. And then she got back on the horse. And when she stopped, I continued and it was every day, and she drew attention to it.”
Around this time, Vogue became pregnant with their eldest son Theodore. ‘MThe fact that she was drinking was emphasized by the fact that she wasn’t drinking,” Spencer said.
‘There was a general level of disappointment on her part about me. That felt bad, right, because I always wanted people close to me to be proud of me,” he added.
After The Jump, Spencer struggled to find more work, while his wife’s career flourished. ‘I started to feel like a real loser. She would do these amazing things and travel while pregnant and land these TV jobs and present these documentaries. And I would be home.”

However, Spencer explained that even though Vogue was “drinking and drinking to get drunk every few days,” he would continue “and that was it every day.”
Spencer’s turning point came after a drunken evening in 2017, after drinking most of a bottle of whiskey at the London home he shared with Vogue.
When he drunkenly slept with Vogue, who was pregnant at the time, he remembers telling her he was going to quit. “She didn’t really believe me, and neither did anyone else,” he admitted, but “I didn’t drink for three and a half years, I just stopped.”
And to underline his turning point, the next morning he signed up for his first ultramarathon: running six and a half marathons in five days in the Sahara. and explained, “I did it to punish myself for the wasted years.”
His next challenge is a world record attempt, in which he announces that he plans to run the ‘most consecutive marathons on sand’: thirty marathons in thirty days in the Jordanian desert.
