State of Origin viewers were impressed by Temper Trap’s performance at the MCG in Queensland for Game Two of the NRL on Wednesday.

The iconic Australian rock band took to the stage of the 90,000 capacity stadium ahead of the highly anticipated match to perform their globally recognized 2008 hit Sweet Disposition.

But fans were left with an ’empty’ feeling after seeing the band – consisting of singer Dougy Mandagi, drummer Toby Dundas, bassist Jonathon Aherne and pianist Joseph Greer – perform live.

They took to X – formerly known as Twitter – to share their thoughts, claiming the melodic track wasn’t a good song choice to get fans energized.

Viewers were also unimpressed with singer Dougy’s vocals, insisting his voice isn’t ‘what it used to be’, while making their opinion perfectly clear.

“Temper Trap has contributed to many of Rugby League’s horrific musical performances over the years,” one person wrote.

“The Temper Trap singer’s voice isn’t what it used to be,” said another, while a third added: “Why do we need the Temper Trap to sing horribly to us?”

A fourth tweeted: ‘Yes, a temper trap that sets absolutely no one on fire,’ while another said: ‘Temper Trap? Is it 2008?’

“Sorry, but I don’t consider tantrums a stadium act. For me, it’s always a disappointment when I see them during the pre-match entertainment,” another person added.

However, other viewers quickly came to the band’s defense and praised the ‘amazing’ performance.

“Temper Trap, they could never make me hate them,” one wrote, while a second gushed: “The Temper Trap!!!!!!!! Highlight of the Origin series.’

A third said: ‘F**k I love Temper Trap,’ while another said: ‘The Temper Trap is amazing and you can’t change your mind.’

Theater star Sheridan Adams then sang the national anthem after the Acknowledgment of Country.

The Wicked actress, who plays Elphaba in the play, showed off her melodious vocals as she sang a traditional performance from Advance Australia Fair.

Her rendition came weeks after Dylan Wright divided fans with his ‘hipster’ version of the national anthem in Game One of State of Origin.

The The 2024 Australian Idol winner delivered a stripped-down, guitar-based rendition of Advance Australia Fair to a packed house at Sydney’s Accor Stadium.

But many viewers were offended by the singer’s “diabolical”, “hipster” interpretation of the national anthem written by Scottish-born Australian composer Peter Dodds.

It didn’t take long for them to flood social media with their thoughts, as they seemed less than impressed with his spin on the national anthem.

“What is this, the hipster anthem? Devilish,” wrote one viewer.

‘No, hurry up with this anthem. You can’t do a cover of the national anthem,” another added.

‘Not a fan of artists who put their spin on the national anthem. Sing it right, or just play the Julie Anthony recording,” someone else said.

“Just when you thought the anthem couldn’t get any worse,” groused a fourth.

However, there were other viewers who loved Dylan’s soulful rendition.

“I really enjoyed the version of the Australian National Anthem,” one viewer wrote.

“Can we make that version the official national anthem from now on?” added another.

“But that anthem…I absolutely loved it,” said a third alongside a red love heart emoji.

Amid the massive public backlash, Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson also defended the singer as they praised his acoustic rendition.
