Police apprehended a man suspected of murdering 21 year old woman and disposing of her body in Phetchaburi. Following an arrest warrant, officers are currently interrogating the suspect.

The Thai authorities discovered the body of Benjarat, also known as Nong Dream, on June 7 in a grassy area by the southbound side of Phetkasem Road, near kilometre marker 144 in Khao Yoi District, Phetchaburi.

The corpse was in an advanced state of decomposition, making initial identification impossible. However, distinct items were found on the body, including a blue-banded gold watch on the left wrist, a gold ring on the middle finger, a stone bead bracelet on the right wrist, and a tattoo on the left shoulder.

The victim was later identified as Benjarat from Nong Khai Province, whose family had previously reported her missing. Confirmation came from her mother, who recognized a Winnie the Pooh tattoo on her body. The mother expressed her belief that Benjarat had been murdered by her boyfriend.

Police yesterday gathered sufficient evidence to issue an arrest warrant for 20 year old Anuwat on charges of theft at night, unlawful burial, concealment, movement, or destruction of a body to obscure the cause of death. The following day, June 10, authorities successfully apprehended Anuwat on Phetkasem Road. Police are currently holding him for questioning, with further updates to follow, said a police spokesperson.

“The suspect has been detained, and we are in the process of conducting a thorough investigation.”

The tragic case has gripped the local community, with many expressing their sorrow and calling for justice for Benjarat. Her family had been actively searching for her since she went missing, and the discovery of her body has brought a heartbreaking end to their search.

Violence and safety

A family member stated that she hopes the police can deliver justice.

“We hope that the investigation will uncover the truth and bring the responsible party to justice.”

This incident has highlighted the issues of violence and safety, particularly for young women. The Thai authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to help prevent such tragedies in the future.

As the investigation continues, police are expected to release more details about the case, including any potential motives and further evidence. The community remains on edge, awaiting justice for Benjarat and hoping that such a horrific crime will not be repeated, reported Khaosod.
