Sergio Aguero was back in Man City kit on Wednesday and it wasn’t long before he was up against an opponent as his team lost their opening match at The Soccer Tournament.

The Argentine, 36, retired from 2021 due to a heart condition but returned to the field on Wednesday for the 7-a-side tournament led by his aptly named Aguero FC.

But it wasn’t the return to sky blue he had hoped for as his team fell 6-3, with the Argentine star coming face to face with a Say Word FC opponent in the second half as tensions rose .

Aguero and the opponent appeared to exchange some tense words before Say Word’s goalkeeper intervened – before one of the attacker’s Team Aguero teammates escalated the situation by pushing the opponent Aguero collided with.

The legendary striker attempted six shots in the match but failed to score as Say Word completed a surprise victory in front of a handful of City supporters.

Although Aguero is the only ex-City player in his squad for the tournament, the English club is certainly committed to his participation there.

Aguero’s team took to the pitch in the club’s 2024-2025 kits, and behind one of the pitches is the Premier League trophy and a photo of Aguero’s iconic title-winning goal against QPR.

The team will play again on Wednesday evening before taking on former Man United star Nani and his Nani FC on Wednesday.

The football tournament will award a $1 million winner’s prize for the second time in both the men’s and women’s competitions.

This year, teams representing Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Burnley, Inter Milan, Villareal and Wrexham traveled to North Carolina to compete.

Former NFL star JJ Watt even came on for Burnley (which he co-owns with his wife Kealia), while Marco Materazzi and Guiseppe Rossi also took to the field.
