Rory McIlroy’s estranged wife Erica Stoll fails to contest superstar golfer’s divorce petition by court deadline

Rory McIlroy's estranged wife, Erica Stoll, missed Sunday's cutoff date to respond to the golfer's divorce filing and has not filed at all since, an official with the Palm Beach County Clerk's office confirmed to DailyMail.com

Rory McIlroy’s divorce battle could be over before it even begins after his estranged wife missed the deadline to respond, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

Erica, 36, was served with the paperwork at her Florida home on May 13 and given the state’s standard 20 calendar day deadline to file its response.

But she missed Sunday’s closing date and hasn’t filed at all since, an official from the Palm Beach County Clerk’s office confirmed to DailyMail.com.

This puts Erica, the mother of McIloy’s three-year-old daughter Poppy, at risk of the court granting the superstar golfer a default divorce. If there is a default, the case may proceed without the participation of the defaulting party.

The case would then proceed without her being given the opportunity to challenge the Irishman’s May 13 petition describing their seven-year marriage as ‘irretrievably broken’.

McIlroy competed in the RBC Canadian Open this past weekend at Hamilton Golf and Country Club in Hamilton, Ontario.

After finishing tied for fourth on Sunday, he was spotted hugging 38-year-old CBS Sports reporter Amanda Balionis as they wrapped up an interview about his performance.

Balionis is married to football coach Bryn Renner, but was recently spotted without her wedding ring, leaving golf fans wondering just how close she and McIlroy have become.

The bubbly blonde also interviewed the four-time major winner on May 12 at the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow, which he won by five shots. Court records show McIlroy digitally signed his divorce petition three days earlier. Neither has publicly addressed the speculation, but an unnamed source told Us Weekly that they were not dating.

When news of his divorce first emerged, McIlory’s manager Sean O’Flaherty said in a statement: ‘Rory McIlroy’s communications team today confirmed that a divorce has been filed.

‘They emphasized Rory’s wish to ensure that this difficult time is as respectful and amicable as possible. He will make no further comment.”

McIlroy, whose career earnings on the PGA Tour total nearly $87 million, first met New York native Erica at the 2012 Ryder Cup while working for the PGA of America. He missed his alarm, but she helped him make his start time in Medinah, Illinois, by arranging a police escort. They started dating just months after he abruptly called off his engagement to tennis star Caroline Wozniacki in 2014.

Meanwhile, another source close to the tour claims McIlroy is ‘super focused on golf’ as he tries to end his decade-long wait for a new major. “Plus, he’s spent the last two years putting his blood, sweat and tears into defending the PGA against LIV golf, and it was basically for nothing,” the source told People. “He’s trying to find himself, focus and start winning again,” the source said.
