England could have secured their last-16 fate against Denmark earlier this week.
It was not to be for Gareth Southgate’s men, however, as in true Three Lions fashion they squandered a 1-0 lead, leaving them to do all the hard work against Slovenia.
Despite starting strongly, evidenced by Harry Kane’s opener, the Three Lions failed to impress after Denmark’s equalizer 16 minutes later.
This means that after two games the Three Lions are top of Group C, four points ahead of Slovenia, Denmark and Serbia.
Although England are leading, that could all change after matchday three on Tuesday. This is the result England need against Slovenia to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2024.

What result do England need against Slovenia to qualify for the last 16 of Euro 2024?
England are still in control of their own destiny, despite their poor start to Euro 2024.
With one match left to play in Group C, Harry Kane and Co top the group with four points, while Denmark and Slovenia follow closely with two points each.
Group C as it currently stands:
- England 4pts (GD +1)
- Slovenia 2 points (GD 0)
- Denmark 2pt (GD 0)
- Serbia 1pts (GD -1)
This means that a win for England on Tuesday evening would be enough for England to secure top spot in Group C and progress to the round of 16.
They could also take top spot if they draw against the Slovenians, but only if Denmark fails to beat Serbia.
However, if England draw against Slovenia and Denmark beat Serbia, the Danes would jump behind Southgate’s men and take top spot.

If England lose to Slovenia and Serbia win against Denmark, Slovenia will be top.
While if Slovenia and Denmark both win their matches, the group winner would lose the goal difference between the two.
Which would result in third place for the English.
A win against Slovenia on Tuesday evening would see Gareth Southgate’s men progress to the last 16 as group winners.
Even a defeat to Slovenia on Tuesday night would still see England progress to the round of 16, at least as one of the best third-placed teams.
That said, no team has failed to progress to the knockout stages in a 24-team European Championship campaign after collecting four points, so England will at least progress to the last sixteen as one of the best third-placed teams.
In summary, a win against Serbia would be more than enough to see England through to the last 16 stages.
A draw and a defeat in Denmark would also see them progress as group winners, but a draw and a win in Denmark would see Gareth Southgate’s men settle for second place.
If England lose to Slovenia and Denmark win against Serbia, The Three Lions would be relegated to third place, but would still move up as one of the best third-placed teams.

Who will England play in the last 16?
If England qualify for the round of 16 as group winners, they will face a third place finish from Group D, E or F.
This means it could be any of the following: Slovakia, Ukraine, Austria, Czech Republic and Poland, plus more.
If England finish second in their group, they will meet hosts and tournament favorites Germany in the last 16
