Alan Brazil left his birthday broadcast early on Friday due to illness, his former talkSPORT colleague Mike Parry has revealed.

The show was done live in front of an audience at the Marquis hotel and restaurant in Suffolk.

And attendees were left somewhat perplexed when Brazil left co-host Ray Parlor with about an hour to go.

The 64-year-old did not return, but Parry has allayed fears it was due to something too serious.

Parry posted a photo of himself and Brazil on

‘At his birthday broadcast on Friday, he withdrew from the last hour because he became ill. It has been confirmed that he has contracted a 48-hour virus.

‘He’s now back to full strength and will return to @talkSPORT next week.’

Co-host Parlor also shared a video discussing the situation on X.

From the bar at his home, Parlor said: “Great week, we were at Marquis, a beautiful place near Alan’s.

‘The show was great on Friday, even though Alan didn’t make it to the last hour and a half. He had to lie down for a while, he wasn’t feeling well. Yesterday he was fine. I stayed over Friday night and everything was fine by Saturday, so that’s the good news. I’ll be with him again next week.’

Parlor then concluded its weekly Sunday post by shooting a “Cobra Bomb,” a Jager bomb made with beer.

A listener wrote on X: ‘Alan Brazil has disappeared from his own 65th birthday party arranged for him at his local bar. Only Alan Brazil can beat Brazil Brazil.”

It is not the first time that Brazil has given up its broadcasting duties in recent months.

The former Scotland international went bankrupt in March after a day out at the Cheltenham Festival.

Upon his return, Brazil gave four separate reasons for his absence from the breakfast chair, including a bad knee, a bad chest and the fact that he had contracted a bug from meeting so many people. He also stated that he was too tired after a long week.
