Locals in the eastern province of Rayong are seeking help for an 11 year old Thai boy whose parents physically abuse him almost every day. The parents beat him and force the boy to sleep outside the house with their pet dog.
A 51 year old woman named Na contacted Channel 3 to seek assistance for the boy named Kla. Na explained that Kla’s parents frequently physically abuse the child and beat him harder when she or other neighbours warn them or intervene in their assaults.
Kla’s parents return home around 9pm to 10pm and wake the boy up to buy food and drinks for them at a convenience store far from their home. Na said it is not safe for a young boy to travel alone at night.
Na revealed that she and others are cautious not to provoke Kla’s parents for fear of jeopardising his safety, as their efforts have proven futile. Each time Kla frequents a local grocery store, his body bears wounds and bruises.
Na divulged that Kla has been driven out of his home multiple times to sleep alongside their pet dog, yet she remains puzzled as to what could incite such anger towards their son.
Kla’s 11 year old friend, El, informed the media that Kla is unable to join him for playtime whenever his mother is present. El always sits with Kla whenever he is relegated to sleeping outdoors, distressed by witnessing Kla endure physical abuse.
Good manners
Another neighbour, 36 year old Da, informed Channel 3 that the family only relocated to the community two months ago. Da recounted witnessing Kla being assaulted whenever he failed to complete his household chores.
Da expressed uncertainty regarding Kla’s obstinacy, noting his polite demeanour and good manners during interactions with her. She decried the severity of the punishment meted out to the young boy.
The community leader suspected that the family had a financial issue, putting Kla’s parents under stress and leading them to vent their anger on their son.
According to the leader, Kla was not allowed to go to school. He helped him until Kla managed to attend school, but only for a short time. Kla missed classes several times, making him unable to move to the next level.
Channel 3 reported that the matter was reported to the Rayong Provincial Office of Social Development and Human Security. Kla is now waiting for the authorities to take him to a shelter for children.
