Neal Maupay has admitted he already has a few tricks up his sleeve when England take on his native France at the European Championships.

The Brentford striker is known for his ability to get under the skin of opponents and has wasted little time in ramping up his antics on social media ahead of the tournament.

Nearly six months after the pair had a back-and-forth on social media, Maupay brutally attacked James Maddison earlier this week after the Spurs star missed out on Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad.

Maupay posted a photo of himself holding a trio of darts in front of a board, mocking Maddison’s signature celebration.

But much more could happen this summer, according to the man himself.

When asked if he had anything planned if England and France met in the knockout rounds in Germany, Maupay joked that he was well prepared.

“I have a few memes ready,” he said talkSPORT. ‘I have seen that we can face each other in the semi-finals.

‘It depends where I watch the match. It will be in England, but I have to be careful. I don’t want to be run over by twenty English fans!

“I wait until I get home and then I’m on my phone.”

Maddison wasn’t the only notable omission from Southgate’s final 26-man squad for the final later this month.

Jack Grealish was also left without a place in the team after struggling to find consistent form at Manchester City, despite Pep Guardiola’s side winning a history-making fourth consecutive league title on the final day.

Despite some significant backlash surrounding the decision, Maupay said he understood Southgate’s decision given the depth of attacking talent available.

‘When I look at the England team, there are so many good players. You have to choose 26 players.’ He continued.

‘There have to be 26 players in shape. I don’t think Grealish is in his best form. There are players like Cole Palmer, Phil Foden and all those strikers, they have scored a lot.

‘If you have 30, 35 top players, some must be missing. You can’t choose twenty attackers.’

One selection that did surprise Maupay was that of N’Golo Kante for France.

The former Leicester and Chelsea midfielder played his club football in Saudi Arabia with Al-Ittihad and has featured in just one of Les Blues’ last 26 games, but will be part of Didier Deschamps’ squad.

“I was surprised because he hasn’t been drafted in a few years,” he added. ‘But Kante has always been a top player for France.

‘He is simply a good teammate in a team. You always see him smiling and he always does something for the team.

‘Didier Deschamps likes to rely on players he knows very well [Olivier] Giroud, Kante, [Antoine] Griezmann. He knows them very well, so he opts for experience.’
