Katie wrote: ‘Unfortunately I won’t be attending my breakfast show this weekend as I have had to undergo an unexpected medical procedure. Everything is going well and I hope that after some rest I will be back in the hot seat next weekend!’

The star hosted the second series of her ITV talk show, which airs every Saturday and Sunday morning at 8.25am.

She did not provide further details about the procedure. However, in 2023, Katie suffered from problems with her eye for several months.

In December 2023, Katie revealed she was forced to sew her eye shut to help it heal.

Katie told her fellow Loose Women panellists: ‘I had a planned procedure called tarsorrhaphy, which is a semi-permanent closure of the eye. So it is an operation that is performed in the theater and your eye is completely or partially sewn shut.

‘Some people may be familiar with it, you normally see it when someone has a corneal disease. And closing the eye gives it the optimal environment to heal.”

‘So I’ve had quite a few problems with my eye over the past year and a half. I don’t like going on about it because there’s always someone worse off!’

Katie added: ‘It was quite painful so it’s a big relief for me to finally get it stitched up as it’s a lot more comfortable.’

“It’s not permanent, it’ll probably be a year like this and then hopefully I can get it open.”

It came after she said in June that her eye was bleeding while she was filming a documentary.

The TV personality explained The Daily Star at the time: ‘During the filming I unfortunately had to go in and out of the hospital because I had a problem with my eye. It burst and I started bleeding.

‘I am already blind in one eye, so any other attack or injury could leave me permanently blind. Safety always comes first in a prison environment. I know it sounds selfish, but I was concerned about my own injuries, which come with vulnerabilities.”

Katie continued about her ordeal: ‘It was scary. But then I knew I had to put myself in that environment to be able to properly address this subject.’

Last month, Katie revealed she had undergone surgery to repair a defect in her left eye, informing fans that she had undergone a tissue transplant.

Sharing a photo of herself and her team, she said on Instagram at the time: “Back yesterday with my brilliant team @centreforsightuk.”

She explained: ‘I have had an abnormality for months, so today I had tissue transplanted onto my left eye to prevent perforation.

‘I continue to be amazed at what can be done with the eyes, especially with such extreme injuries. I am a complex patient, but my consultant @sherazdaya always has a plan to help me and my eye.

In 2008, at the age of 24, she was the victim of a horrific sulfuric acid attack when a man she had been dating for just two weeks raped her and then paid a hitman to attack her.

Katie subsequently lost sight in one eye and fought to maintain the health of her other eye, but she didn’t let that stop her from completing the project.

Katie previously said: 'I am already blind in one eye, so any other attack or injury could leave me permanently blind.' She was blinded by an acid attack by her ex-boyfriend, a rapist
