Disgraced ex-Man City and Brazilian winger Robinho is pursuing a new career by serving a nine-year prison sentence.

The former Premier League player – real name is Robson De Souza – was one of six men found guilty of assaulting an Albanian woman in an Italian nightclub in January 2013, while playing for AC Milan.

In March, the 40-year-old was jailed in Brazil following a landmark Supreme Court ruling after Italian prosecutors argued he should serve his sentence in his home country.

Now The sun report that he will begin his stay inside by learning new skills in basic electronics, including TV and radio repair, as part of a program by Brazil’s Universal Institute to prepare prisoners for life after their release.

Robinho’s lawyer Mario Rosso Vale said: ‘Robinho keeps his head down and carries on quietly… he is an exemplary prisoner and has had no problems with other prisoners.

‘He keeps himself busy. He has signed up for a basic electronics course, where he will learn how to repair TVs and radios. To qualify in this area, he must complete 600 hours of distance learning.”

Vale added: “It’s hard to say if he enjoys it or not, but it helps pass the time.”

Robinho has also volunteered for a reading program that distributes 500 books to other prisoners every month.

Milan’s Court of Appeal ruled that Robinho had ‘belittled’ and ‘brutally humiliated’ the victim while upholding his original sentence in December 2020.

For his part, Robinho claims he is innocent, and his lawyers are currently appealing his sentence.
