Caitlin Clark says Chennedy Carter doesn’t need to apologize after pushing her off the ball to the ground in last week’s Indiana Fever-Chicago Sky match.
Clark was waiting for a pass when Carter came from behind and shouldered her into the ground, appearing to shout ‘you b****’ moments before.
Carter has since faced increasing criticism for her behavior, but Clark said Friday it was time to move on.
“No,” she said when asked if Carter should say sorry. ‘Basketball is competitive, I understand that.
‘Sometimes emotions get the upper hand, that has happened to me several times in the course of my career.

Carter of the Chicago Sky said she has no regrets about the incident involving Clark
‘People are competitive, it is what it is. She’s having a great season, she’s playing great basketball.
“She was great for them off the bench, she hit 25 last night, I think, to help them win the game.
“It’s just not where my focus is. I think about my team, I think about ways I can get better, and at the end of the day, it’s just basketball.
‘There is no grudge, there is no such thing. It’s a sport, it’s competitive, it won’t always be fun. That’s not what basketball is and I think people who play the sport at the highest level understand that.”
Carter said Monday she had no regrets about the incident.
After training on Monday she said: ‘I don’t regret anything. I’m going to compete and play 100 percent hard no matter who it is or who we’re playing against.”
Clark also said earlier Friday that she was frustrated with the coverage of the WNBA for not focusing on the action on the court.
“Sometimes it stinks how much, you know, the conversation goes outside of basketball,” Clark said.
Clark returned to action for the Indiana Fever on Friday evening against the Washington Mystics
“And not the product on the floor, and the great players that are on the floor and how good they are for their teams and how great this season has been for women’s basketball, from college basketball to now the WNBA.”
The No. 1 overall pick in this year’s WNBA Draft also revealed that while she stays away from the noise created by social media, she can’t escape the way stories revolving around her and her peers are presented.
“I’m not on social media, so I don’t see much of it,” Clark added. ‘But you’d be surprised: I still have the TV on at home and I watch sports. You are still aware of it. You still see it. But other than that my focus is on basketball.”
