Former Australian Idol judge Meghan Trainor revealed on Friday the surprise Australian celebrity who inspired her son’s name Barry Bruce.

The Massachusetts-born pop star, 30, and her husband Daryl Sabara spent several months in Australia in 2023 while she filmed her role in the Channel Seven series.

The blonde bombshell appeared on The Kyle and Jackie O Show and told her former Idol co-star Kyle Sandilands, 52, that he partly served as naming inspiration.

‘Barry was in my stomach when I sat next to you. “I told you his name was Bruce, but changed it to Barry Bruce at the last minute,” she began.

Kyle then asked Meghan why she chose such an ‘old fashioned’ name for her son, instead of going for something more unique – and was shocked by her answer.

“Remember when I told you you sound like the big shark in Finding Nemo, Bruce? I thought about him, and I told you during our break that I was going to make a baby.

“I named him Bruce because he’s my Australian baby!”

Bruce the Great White Shark was voiced by the late iconic Australian actor Barry Humphries in the 2003 Disney film.

Meghan chose her son’s name from both the Dame Edna star’s first name, the character he played, and the fact that Sandiland’s unique voice inspired her to do so.

The Lips Are Movin hitmaker added that she had previously told Kyle this in confidence, and was proud of him for keeping it a secret until now.

Meghan and her Spy Kids star husband Daryl Sabara welcomed their second son Barry Bruce on July 1, 2023, shortly after she returned to the United States.
