African Gardener tried to rape madam in her sleep at Nooitgedact Farm in Northam


Two African male suspects, aged 32 and 35, are appearing before Northam Magistrate’s court on Wednesday, 12 June 2024, on charges of house robbery and attempted rape. 


The suspects were arrested on Tuesday, 11 June 2024, following a house robbery and attempted rape incidents that took place at Nooitgedact Farm, Northam policing area, in the Waterberg District on Saturday 08 June 2024. 

According to the information, the house owner was asleep at home, with all doors closed and locked when she heard the footstep approaching her bedroom and she was surprised to see someone she recognized as her gardener demanding money from her. He went outside to speak with someone. 

He apparently returned with an axe, a knife, and a shifting spanner, threatened to rape the victim if she did not pay him. They robbed the victim of three laptops, a tablet, and two cellphones before fleeing the scene.

Police were notified about the incident, and they managed to trace and arrest both suspects. Some of the stolen items were also recovered.

The Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe hailed the arrest of the suspects and further praised the investigation team for their relentless efforts in putting offenders behind bars.

The duo will appear before Northam Magistrate’s Court on charges of house robbery and attempted rape. 

Police investigations continue.
